MTF Week 11

This week in MTF we began to present our Real world remixed assignments. Students that presented in this lecture were Scott Herriman, myself, Jake Taylor, Stuart Johnston, Scott Philip, Daniel Trembath.

The first presentation was by Scott Herriman with the song “If I Had My Way” by Little Axe. I thought the quality of Scotts presentation was very good with his end mix being quite different to mine. The reference track “Mama Said by Metallica” was interesting as Scott said “It was the only acoustic song I owned.”

I presented after Scott with my own rendition of Little Axe’s “If I Had My Way”. While presenting the mix I realised it didn’t sound quite right with my panning being not very evident through the monitors. It was only later on when Stuart presented his mix I realised the left speaker wasn’t working at all.

Scott Philps shorter arrangement of Joi’s “What You Are” was interesting in the fact he brought forward parts of the song that weren’t present in the original and had an effective amount of panning.

Simon also chose “What You Are”. After listening to Simon talk about his presentation it seemed as if he didn’t enjoy it at all, making note of not enjoying world music and hating fade outs.

Jake was up next with his rendition of Afro Celts’ “My Secret Bliss” and I believed he did a very good job due to the fact he was able to pinpoint the 1 Khz range lacking in his song then fixed the flute parts with a 4 band EQ to bring them out in the mix more.

Stuarts take of “My Secret Bliss” was very well arranged with his “Fatboy Slim” reference being heard well through out his final mix. The construction of Stuarts arrangement was very clever and spaced well to hear every individual sound.

The last presentation by Daniel Trembath on Afro Celts’ “My Secret Bliss” was an interesting arrangement as Daniel decided to a techno arrangement. So the vocal tracks were left out and soon enough it became drum and bass city with some nice acoustic guitar harmonies.
