MTF Week 12

This week in MTF we finished up with the last few Real world presentations by Lauren McMahon, Brendan Godfrey, Josh Bevan, Lisa Lane-Collins and Ken Mosman.

Lauren started us off with her chosen song being the neglected class mix “Peoples Colony No. 1”. Lauren being into electronic music definitely gave it a dance / more upbeat feel and I believe the end product was quite good with a nice change to hear something different.

Kens mix followed the same suite with a complete remix of Joi’s “What You Are”. Ken dived outside the square and decided to use the popular mixing program Ableton Live to sample each individual sound before making the final cut. Kens mix was quite clear with automation playing a large part with his panning.

Josh’s take on Peter Gabriel song “Shock the Monkey” was interesting in the fact he chose to use hardly any of the original tracks as he felt they didn’t fit his mix. I do agree with him on the point that most of the sounds were of poor / general MIDI quality. Josh did like the bass line though which he built the song up around as it was clearly the best piece.

Lisa with her remix of the popular class choice “My Secret Bliss” was an almost vocal less mix with a raw techno raw feel. The mix was purely concentrated on the drums and featured strongly in the song being the loudest part in the overall mix.

Brendan finished off the presentation with his mix of Little Axes “If I Had My Way”. Brendan made point that he concentrated a lot on the vocals trying to get that Kylie Minogue effect by copying the vocals 2 times then pitch shifting one -5 cents and the other +5 while leaving the original one intact.
